Grain Feeding Ruminants

REQUIREMENTS
Adjustable Field Bins

  • Cattle allow 5cm/hd
  • Sheep allow 3cm/hd

Fresh, clean drinking water close to feed bins.

An ad.lib. “long fibre” source such as hay.

GRAIN INDUCTION PERIOD
Initially restrict access to feed to ensure animals only consume small quantities of feed allowing the rumen to adjust to the new feed source.

A good starting level is about 1/2 kg/hd/day.

Gradually increase quantity offered over a period of weeks until desired feeding level is achieved.
